Opera Boris Godunov

Upon the death of Emperor Boris of Imperial Russia, Dmitry (Polish spelling is Dymitri.  He often is called ,L,zedymitri = false-Dmitry.) is one of the two men contending to be his only Son, and thus, entitled to become the next Emperor.

The Polish family Burzeni-Mniszek backs Dmitry. In real life, as in the Opera, there is no climax or resolution. All of his life, Dmitry keeps aspiring to the Throne. He never causes -- nor gets into -- any real trouble, in spite of the ongoing military skirmishes. Miss Marina Hrabia herbu Poraj Burzeni-Mniszek promisses to marry him, as soon as he becomes the Emperor. Thus, neither of them ever marries.  There are various historical opinions as to the possible legitimacy of the three occurrences Dmitry.  Some accounts say that Marina had married the first Dmitry and that they were crowned Car and Carina of Russia.  The second Dmitry probably is the same man as the first -- at least so it is said that Marina proclaimed.  The third Dmitry is very dubious.

Miss Marina Hrabia herbu Poraj Burzeni-Mniszek was a Sister of the male forbearer of my Grandmother Marja Dorota Hrabia herbu Poraj Burzeni-Mniszek.

In the historical Russian opera, Boris Godunov, by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, the name of the lead female character, Miss Marina Hrabia herbu Poraj Burzeni-Mniszek, is simplified to Marina Mniszek. Also, her title has been left out. As in real life, the story of the Opera goes nowhere; but, Mussorgsky's music is great.  This opera is based upon Pushkin's drama and a history of Russia by Nikolay Mikhailovich Karamizin.  See the Britanica reference for Dmitry.
